Speech and Language Pathology:

Speech/Language Pathology addresses services in the areas of language, auditory processing, literacy, augmentative and alternative communication, along with speech sound production such as phonological, articulation, and motor speech disorders.

Speech and Language are very different aspects of communication. When talking about speech disorders we are referring to fluency disordersvoice disorders,  speech sound disorders, and motor speech disorders.

Language is a system of rules we use to communicate our thoughts, including our wants and needs.  A language disorder is a problem using or understanding spoken or written words or symbols (such as sign language). Auditory processing is what we do with what we hear.
